Patients and community
For patients, caregivers, and community advocates who want to try a new way to check in for a doctor's visit and tell us how it feels.
Background
When you check in for a visit, you usually fill out the same forms again and again. With SMART Health Check-in, you answer from a health app of your choice that already has your records, like your allergies, medications, or insurance card, and that can help you answer the clinic's other questions. Your app shows which website or app is asking and exactly what it's asking for, you choose what to share, and the answers go straight back to it.
At this event, clinics and health apps are trying it together for the first time. Your view of what's clear, what's confusing, and what would make you trust it is some of the most useful feedback we can get.
Get started
Everything below works in a web browser on any phone, tablet, or computer, and takes about 15 minutes in total. All the patients, records, and clinics are made up. Never enter real health information. You can go through the steps on your own, or let an AI assistant guide you: the patient track on the Share your experience page has a prompt that walks you through them.
- Check in for a visit: clinic check-in demo. Press Continue with Demo wallet, choose what to share in the Demo wallet, and press Share selected.
- Fill in a form from your health app: form autofill demo. Press Continue with Demo wallet, share, and look over what was filled in.
- Check in at a front-desk kiosk: open the kiosk demo on a computer and scan its QR code with your phone. No second device? Use the link under the QR code.
- Optional, on an Android phone: try a real wallet app. Follow the install steps, then check in from the clinic check-in demo in Chrome: press Use an app on this phone and pick the app.
- Share what you found from the patient track on the Share your experience page (details below).
Joining
- Register: you don't need to. The demos work any time, before, during, or after the event.
- The live event: on Zoom; the date, time, and link are on the main page. Join the main room for the opening, the hourly check-ins, and the closing report-out, where participants share what they found.
- Questions: ask in the #kill-the-clipboard channel on the CMS Health Tech Ecosystem Slack.
Share what you found
Send a short report from the patient track on the Share your experience page: it has the guide prompt for any AI assistant, and the experience form. Reports are public, credited with the name and organization you give, or anonymous if you leave those blank, so leave out anything you wouldn't want public.
